blade motor
« on: August 08, 2010, 12:50:26 PM »
I just received a new blade motor for my 3500. Unfortunately I received it yesterday when Kyodo is not open for business. What I found out was that the new motor is smaller than the old. I am unable to secure it to the bot itself at the base like I could with the older motor.

Is there supposed to be an adapter for this motor?

You will need to drill new holes in the body of the mower to match the inside ring of holes on your existing metal washer.

Are you sure you were sent the correct motor?

I see the sticker saying it's for the L100, L200, and L300.......

Hideki said that he's sending a "collar" for it....

8/11/10: I received the new collar - the thing is VERY tall - similar to the new motor. New motor is taller than the previous blade motor and new collar is much taller than old collar. I installed, and even after cutting about 1/2 inch off the top of this collar, the blade is still very low to the ground (I can not push it any further up because of the top cover/shell.

So now I have an upgraded robot which cuts lower than before the upgrade....
Will have to contact the guys at Kyodo again...

Heh.. that's the problem with the LB3200.  The motor hits the inside cover, if it didn't, you could get another 1/4" out of the cutting height.

I just got a new motor for my 3510 it is different than the original that was shorter and had an encoder board on top.  The new motor is taller with an internal encoder board, and the new mounting cylinder is real tall compared to the old one.  Like roninwar I trimmed the excess of the top of the new mount but my max cut is now 2 ¾”.  That is by the indicator on the mounting cylinder if I measure the cut grass it is 2 ¼” to 2 ½”.  I was getting approximately 3” cut on the old motor.

Contact KA again, they told me they resolved the issue and you should be able to get your mowing height back.

yeah... the solution was to cut off the excess height on the collar - unfortunately, the motor itself is much higher than the older version - so whether or not one can get back to the same cutting height is in real question - I hesitate to trim any more of the collar off in fear of jamming the motor against the hood of the bot....

I agree.  I cut the holder so it is flush with the top of the motor and actually ground a groove for the motor wire so it wouldn’t get pinched between the holder and top of the bot.  I then set the motor holder set screw so it would barely hold the motor up and slowly closed the top of the bot pushing the motor down.  Opened up the bot and tightened the set screw.  I would say with the current motor I am at the max height.

I recently had the same problem.  The collar seems to bump into the bump sensor on the top of the mower.  The motor I have is the FISE motor.  It seems to clear just fine to the max height.  If you place it in the mower at the max height setting, close the top and don't put the mounting screws to the motor, you can push up on the bottom of the mower and check for yourself that it will go up about an inch before it hits the chassis.  I trimmed off the front of the collar so that it doesn't hit the bump sensor (the front of the collar is trimmed to below the height of the motor).  Now you have regained your maximum mowing height!  FYI I have an upgraded mower to the 3510 series...

Good news!  I will ask KA to include an instructions sheet whenever they ship this motor.

In what way is this motor different than the original?  I wonder if it addresses some of the failures?

Would someone mind snapping a picture of it?

Thanks

I re-trimmed the collar a bit more and got the height back...

I tried to ask Vishal, when he was still with the company, about what was different - got nothin
