Maintenance
« on: May 31, 2010, 09:55:17 PM »
I am wondering if we could build a database of regular scheduled maintenance items with maybe simple directions.  I think if we are armed with a maintenance handbook of sorts we might be able to avoid some of the recurring issues. Also I think it better to work on the potential problem when we have time or during down time rather than have it break down in prime growing season and there is no time to work on it. If we get some suggestions, corrections etc., maybe we could post a nice wiki'ed list. So add, comment correct away.

I am doing this for purely selfish reasons btw. I have had a 3200/3210 for a few years and am now realizing that there were a few procedures that I probably could have been doing that may have prevented some problems. I am now waiting for a 3510 and would like to keep this guy running as smoothly as possible and maybe talk to my mother more often than Vishal. As such I can only start the discussion for 3200.

3200/3210

Change Wheel Motor Brushes
   - end of every season
   - do you change blade motor brushes?
Tighten down motor mounts
   - check monthly
Grease front wheel bearings
   -check monthly do as needed
   -change or repack them yearly?
Sharpen blade
   - weekly
   - I use a cheap one like this
Smith Abrasives 10-Second Knife and Scissors Sharpener
http://www.amazon.com/Smith-Abrasives-10-Second-Scissors-Sharpener/dp/B0018VL3JW/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1275360368&sr=8-14
   - you can take the blade off and pound it flat with a hammer, then sharpen it if it hits a rock or garden fence or toy.

Clean mud from wheels
   - weekly or as needed
Check for firmware updates and install as needed.
   - is there a forum that announces new firmware?

I started something similar on my wiki http://lawnbott.jzdocs.com

Edit: Would anyone be interested in me creating a lawnbott (or lawnmowing robots) community web site?  It would allow for not only forums, but individual picture galleries and pretty much anything else that may be useful.

We posted a Wiki under our site, but have not had time to do anything with it.  You guys are welcome to get it going.  It would be great to have all of the static, re-useable information on the Wiki and have all of the discussions in the forum.  Let me know what you think.
