Height Modification
« on: May 03, 2010, 03:41:25 PM »
Hi all -

This is a post I made in the other forum and I thought I'd move it over here.

All -

I have decided to officially offer a lift kit for sale. As you may be aware I made a lift modification to my robot last season and it worked great.  I have revised the mod and improved it quite a bit for this year and I am going to offer it as a service.

I'd like to know who is interested.

Here are some details about the lift kit:
- This will work for any 32xx or 35xx model Lawnbott
- The cutting height maximum with the lift kit is up to 4" if desired
- All safety mechanisms are left in place namely the blade guard
- All parts are aluminum, stainless steel, or carbon steel
- You must send your robot in for the modification
- The time to complete is approximately 2-3 weeks unless I can get a good idea of how many are interested - I will then produce parts ahead of time which will speed up turn around time
- All parts will be installed on your robot when you get it back. If you want to modify the garage yourself, I will provide the parts and instructions to do the modification.  If you would prefer to have it done for you, you will need to ship your charging station in for the modification.

Optional items:
- If you have slopes on your yard, I'd recommend a wheelie preventative mechanism.  This option is pretty inexpensive and involves installing a modified longer backplate on the robot and a couple of wheels on the backplate.  Since the robot is raised up higher this is also a good way to protect the blade from hands/feet. If your yard is completely flat you don't necessarily need this option.
- Repair of cracked robot shells and repainting different color - if you have a cracked shell and want it repaired and/or want a new color for your robot, let me know.  Price is TBD on this and it will depend on what condition the shell is in. I've repaired and repainted one shell I have a metallic blue and it looks great!

The lift kit modification will be offered through Paradise Robotics (< http://www.paradiserobotics.com >) and will sell for somewhere in the range of $600 - $700. Final price TBD, but this will be the general range.

Anyone want to have their grass mowed higher?

cliff - I don't see why not.  We'd have to figure out shipping costs with insurance and such and work out a deal there, but I don't see that being an issue.

What type of grass do you have there in Australia?

For those who are interested, here is a picture of the shell that I repaired and repainted.  It had some pretty bad cracks on both sides near the wheels.

This mod will be officially available soon - I am guessing within the next month or so at the latest.  I'll post a notification on this thread when it is official and those who are interested can go out to Paradise Robotics and place an order.

Those of you who are considering this please do reply to this thread - I'd still like to get an idea of how many people are interested.

Thanks.

Kathy at Paradise Robotics and I are working out some paperwork and once that is done you will see the product offered on their website.  Sorry for the delay, but it will be available soon.

Hi all -

The height modification as described above will be available for order on the Paradise Robotics website shortly.  We've gotten all the paperwork finalized.  Either Robotlady or I will post another message when it has been added as an option to the website.

Hi Bob - earlier this year I had to take it off the market because I didn't have enough time to complete the orders that were coming in. I am working on ways to decrease the labor time so that I can do it in less time.
I also have moved to a dual gear approach instead of sprocket and chain. I've had my robot working this way since the beginning of the year and it has worked great.

I am looking into getting a CNC milling machine and with that I think I may start offering the height mod again.
