Blackout errors caused by too many splices?
« on: April 25, 2015, 06:20:03 PM »
This spring, I relocated the perimeter wire around some trees. In the process, I had to splice in some extra wire in 3 places. The 3 splices ranged from 2' to 6' in length each. The lawnbott works fine in other parts of the yard, but near these trees, it occasionally has Blackout and Out of Border errors.
The splices are the only thing that has changed in this area so I think they might be the cause. Is there a minimum distance I need to have between splices to prevent these errors?

Don't know if this could be the cause, but, if the splices are in the wires going to or from the trees.... (the wires that are right next to each other) and you got them crossed, the bot may think it's outside the perimeter.  It would see the signal going in the wrong direction.  Otherwise I can't think of why it should act up since the signal must be getting all the way around the yard.

You did do a good soldier job at the junction points (if you soldiered the wires together -- which I would recommend) and tape/insulation so water can't enter, correct?

Hope that helps..... toolbelt
