3510 blade guard removal

Has anyone taken off the blade guard on the 3500/10? Tips/ideas? Does it improve performance or add height? Are there problems associated with it? Thanks

My 3200 clogged up with grass so bad that it almost stopped cutting so I removed the stupid thing.  Never bothered trying to raise the blade as I'm happy with the height it presently cuts.

I removed my blade guard from my 3500 simply to raise the mowing height.

I upgraded to the 3510 and they didn't add another blade guard to it (thank god) and the mowing height is good.  Here is my post that includes pictures of mowing height:

Does one replace the metal plate or just the screws? The screws seemed too long without the guard on, but I am hesitant to leave open holes there. I dont see the need for the plate anymore either. I am going to try to buy shorter screws to replace them, but leave off the plate. What did others do?

I removed mine today and I did put the metal plate back on.  When I tried to run it with the blade as high as it would go it made an off sound.  Hard to describe, not a rubbing and I didn’t see any signs of rubbing afterwards.  I dropped the blade one notch from max and WOW, whisper quite.  It may have improved the cut and I couldn’t keep the blade guard from clogging with clippings.  When I took it off there were 100's of little crawlies living in there.

If the 35xx is anything like the 3200, the noise you heard was the back side of the motor rubbing on the inside of the bot.  I realized after playing with my cutting motor that the max height restriction is due to the size of the motor.  After setting it all the way up, I couldn't put the inside cover back on.
