Control Panel Replacement
« on: October 16, 2012, 07:31:01 PM »
Replaced the Control Panel switches today.  There was nothing to it since it is a peal and stick unit.  Just remove the old one, peal off the cover and stick it in place.  It took longer to take Junior apart and put him back together again than it did to replace the panel.  I'm debating whether to cover it over with clear tape before it cracks like the last one did  The panel cost $60 plus shipping so the total was $70.

From what Robot Lady said the biggest problem would be removing all of the old glue.  Since mine was purchased back in 2006 the glue was not sticky which allowed the panel to peal off very easy.

Some history:

Last month when I tried to turn Junior off the Stop button I pressed didn't work.  The pause button worked okay but I couldn't turn him off.  Lovely.  Contacted Robot Lady for a new panel and got it almost over night.  The ink hadn't dried on the check before it showed up.

Anyhow, as said above I could be in for a hard time replacing it.  Therefore I decided to wait until the season was over.  I covered junior's rain sensor so he could mow in the rain.  We have sandy soil here in our neck of the woods so mud puddles don't happen.  Everything worked just fine until some water got to his sensor and he shut down today.   After removing the top and battery cover it was a simple matter to pull off the battery contacts.  He needed a good cleaning and blade replacement anyhow.
