Hmmm, the only thing I can think of is somehow there is a "path to ground" in the base.

Do you have a Winter Charger?  A winter charger has the same white connector as the base and has two big connectors that allow you to charge the robot using your transmitter, but without the base at all.  If the robot works fine with the winter charger, then you know the problem has to have something to do with the base.

the problem is that it  charges fully, in house or not, but bot gives out at 2770+;  something is causing bot to stop at 2770+ & not return to base, .. its as if the program tells it to stop... it wasnt always this way... stopped & returned to base at about 2400 after mowing for 2 hours.. now it wont mow  1/2 hour.. if battery was bad, it wont accept full charge, will it??

Ok, thanks for clarifying.  So you have 29.3V at the plates now and the robot reads 29 or close to it on the display shortly after backing out, right?  But then the robot dies at 27.7 after running for awhile and won't turn back on.  Got it.  This is a new one for us so I will have to contact our distributor and get back to you.

voltage at the plates with robot out of base is 28.1 volts...  it leaves the base at 2900, fully charged, but stops mowing at 2700+- dies on lawn... have to return robot to base by hand .  voltage at transmitter is 29.3 :( :(
