Lawnbott / Blade screws stripped
« Last post by LAGbot on May 08, 2018, 08:30:26 PM »
FYI, this may help someone.  I discovered the blade screws are M4 x 0.7mm.  One of my screws had stripped out the threads in the aluminum hub, so I removed the blade motor from the chassis, then drilled out the holes and re-tapped them using an M5x0.8mm tap.  I bought stainless steel M5x0.8mm x 12mm socket head screws and M5 washers at Lowes for about $4 total.  They’re driven by a 4mm hex Allen wrench.  I also had to drill out the blade’s holes to 7/32” to fit the slightly larger screws.

From now on, I’m only tightening the screws with a hand driver (and thread locker) instead of a ratchet wrench to reduce the chance of stripping the threads again.

Lawnbott / Re: LB3510 Not charging

My problem last year was solved by replacing the charging nuts. The old ones were too far gone that polishing with sandpaper wouldn’t help. The coating was gone and they would oxidize quickly. I ended up replacing them with stainless steel dome nuts from Home Depot.

This year I had a new problem. I brought the mower out from hibernation with a fully charged battery and it started right up and mowed for several hours. However, when returning to charge, it wouldn’t stop in the base...it would drive right through. When I turned it off and placed it in the base then turned it on again, it would stay paused and wouldn’t start charging. I cleaned up the charging plates and the charging nuts to no avail. Then I went the clean the threads on the charging posts and noticed the black wire to one of the posts was broken. It seems to have degraded over time and just snapped. I repaired it: stripped the two ends, soldered and coated the joint with liquid electrical tape.  Good to go now!

Lawnbott / 11 years and still going
« Last post by toolbelt on April 28, 2018, 01:09:02 PM »
For anyone who thinks these Lawnbotts are just a fad and do not get the job done, boy are you mistaken.  Today starts our eleventh year of not having to mow the lawn!!!!  Yes, 'Junior' has required some maintenance but most were updates to motors.  Brushes needing replaced or Kathy selling upgrades that couldn't be passed up.

Anyhow, just thought I pop in here and let the world know Junior is still mowing and we are sitting on the porch watching the grass be cut.... love it.

Hi, the only thing I can think of is perhaps moving the speed sensor a bit closer to the magnet.  You would have to take the motor apart to find the sensor but some older versions had the sensor exposed.  Disclaimer: I am not sure if it will make a difference, though...

Check the mechanical integrity and make sure there is nothing wrapped around the motor shaft and that there is no "play", i.e. you can't jiggle the wheel back and forth.  I'm sure a mechanical problem can cause a difference.

It's normal for the numbers to vary a small amount, but if the robot is arcing significantly, a difference in speed between the wheels is a possible cause.

Check the front wheels, too, because if one is stiff or not rotating around its post, you can get arcing as well.

I had the bad wheel motor, it masked itself as a bad transmitter as it couldn't spin for a signal check.  And then later my transmitter actually did fail due to a faulty car battery charger in my garage.  I had all the best luck.

I just wanted to thank RobotLady for her dedication on jump starting the lawnbott/Ambrogio  line.  I had two things broken, my transmitter and a wheel motor.  Everything now works as it should thanks to the Paradise Robotics team.
