Title: 3210 Blade Guard - Remove?
Post by: Skaagen on July 24, 2011, 06:12:42 PM
Will removing the blade guard on the LB3210 allow you to increase the blade height?  If so, are there any negative impacts from doing this?

Thanks for any input/assistance!

Why not just flip your bot over, measure where the blade is before and after you remove the guard.

Negative impacts would be that with the guard OFF the tip of the blade would slice into your toes should you stand in front of the bot and let it run up onto your foot versus the sides of the blade slicing into your foot with the guard ON.  Not much difference but it seems to satisfy some folks who worry about those stupid things.  Most people know better than to let it run up over your feet, right, so.... your choice

I took mine off because of the grass buildup on and under the guard. Also, there has been some discussion about the extra buildup maybe causing premature wear and failure of the blade motor, but I don't believe anyone has proved that to date.

I took mine off the second I got it back from recall.  From what I can tell, it reduced the maximum height by about 1/8-1/4 inch.  Or, the thickness of the guard plastic where it mounts to the bot.

Save the old blade guard as it is required to be mounted if you return the bot for service or they will install a new one and charge you for it.

Sorry guys, the government mandated the blade guard.  It is true, if you send your robot in, we have to add it back.
