Title: Binary Player Robot
Post by: RobotLady on May 12, 2011, 02:35:04 PM
Recently my son and I built the Binary Player Robot kit from OWI for a science fair.  Paradise Robotics had a table there and the kids at the fair were asked to color in the programming disk that drives the car.

Assembling the car was challenging.  I took it apart and re-assembled it 3 times because I thought it was not working.  Actually it was due to error OE.  I am embarrased to admit it, the problem was caused by Operator Error.  You see, I forgot that the drive motors are light sensor activated.  The motors turn when the light sensor is darkened.  That's how it reads the disk that gets programmed with binary number controls.  Oops.  I hope my son learned something from my error; um, maybe how easy it is to do a dumb thing...

The Science Fair was very exciting, though.  I'll have to say, it was incredibly amazing to watch the car drive itself around.  The kids loved filling out the disks and then seeing the car drive according to the way they programmed it.   Every kid got a silly band for participating.
